Jerry Li
Jerry Li, born in 1986 in China, grew up harboring deep doubts about authoritarian ideologies and always yearned to break free from such ideological and societal control. Jerry has been on a quest to find a balance between personal value and society, trying to discover his own path to freedom and independence on the land where he was raised. In 2017, Jerry made a bold decision – he set off on a journey across China in a motorhome, a journey of self-discovery and challenge. This was not just a trip, but a profound exploration of the relationships between independent individuals and society, cities, and nature. After years of relentless effort and exploration, Jerry finally published his photo book, “Striking the horn and singing a sad song,” in 2024. He attempted to use images to narrate everything he felt. This work not only showcases what he saw and experienced during his travels but also embodies his deep reflections on personal freedom and societal relationships. Through this photo book, Jerry hopes to convey a message to the world: in modern society, every individual should find their own place, maintain independent thinking, and pursue true freedom.
